At the southern end of the lake is the twin community of Rottach-Egern @ [map] . A sign at the far end of the town indicates the station for the cable car to the summit of the Wallberg (1,702 metres/5,583ft). This mountain is a starting point for some moderately tough hikes; colourful hang-gliders hover around its summit. On bright winter days, lazy sun-worshippers take it easy on their chalet terraces while keen Alpine skiers make the most of the slopes.
