Chapter 17

“That’s not possible,” Lotus said softly. He knew his father could be harsh under certain circumstances, but he hadn’t seen anything on a scale which suggested that Eon could be considered this “Dark Foe” he’d heard mentioned several times.

“But it is,” said Norel. “That is the name of Infinity’s great enemy.”

“Aren’t you guys planning a rebellion against Infinity anyway?” Lotus asked. “Haven’t you ever heard that the enemy of my enemy is my friend? If my father is so great an antagonist that Infinity won’t let his name be spoken, shouldn’t all you rebels be lining up to beg for his support?”

“It’s one thing to seek a better regime,” Leva said. “It is quite another to align yourselves with an enemy who has tried to destroy your people.”

“I find it hard to believe Eon would ever do that,” Lotus said. “Is this something that you have personal knowledge of, or just stories that have been spread by Infinity?”

“It is our history,” Norel declared. Then he added, “As dictated by Infinity.”

“Wait a minute,” Lotus said, as something occurred to him. “When everyone saw my pendant, they recognized it as a symbol of a Highborn, but thought I was part of the Royal House here, in the Infinituum.”

“Correct,” said Leva. She pointed to his pendant – more specifically, to an image of a sunburst emblazoned on it. “We recognize this sigil of the royal family.”

Lotus scratched his temple in thought. “So the same image that designates royalty in my father’s continuum is indicative of the same thing here. Does that mean… Are Eon and Infinity related?”

“They are siblings,” Norel replied. “Twins.”
