FLORIANÓPOLIS, BRAZIL

Rosane Liborio

54 YEARS OLD

Rosane was born in Rio de Janeiro and grew up in Copacabana, dividing her time between school and the beach. One day, at the age of twenty-two, she met a man on the seafront. “He was playing the guitar. I stopped to listen to him and we started to chat. We spent the whole afternoon talking and walking on the beach. We got married a few months later and we are still together.” Her husband was living on a boat in Porto Alegre when Rosane moved in with him; they lived in their floating home for several years and sailed to the Caribbean for three months every summer. Ten years later, after Rosane became pregnant, they moved to the mainland to start their family. They have lived in Florianópolis ever since and now they own a small clothing factory. Their son, who is now twenty-three, lives in the United States and is married to an American woman who is expecting their first child together. So, Rosane will soon become a grandma. “I can’t wait to see my first grandchild and, of course, I can’t wait to cook something for him, or her … who knows?”
