It was Monday. Yuvika had come to the class early and was occupying the front seat, a habit she had developed lately after her newly developed friendship with Rehaan. A friendship that she no longer wanted to hide from Arnav, because she didnât care and she had decided to be serious with her studies as now they were only five months away from the profs.
But today was different. It was Arnavâs physiology seminar and he had reached the LT half an hour before to practise the seminar as it was his first seminar and also because he wanted it to be good.
Yuvika and Arnav were still on good terms with each other, though the friendship that they once shared was so fragile that it could break any time.
Half an hour passed and the students began entering the class. Most of them took the back row seats as the seminars were classes without a lecture and the LT was lit only by the small amount of sunlight that peeped through the blackened windows, to make the slides more visible in the projector. It was now a place where you could do as much âmastiâ as you like and create as much nuisance as you wanted, without worrying about getting caught!
The class was taking full advantage of the dark and making funny sounds. When the faculty of physiology entered the LT, they shouted âAaaooooâ in unison. Some of them even sang âAaiye meherban â¦, baithiye jaanejan ⦠Shauq se lijiye ji, physio ka viva â¦â
The faculty was too old and experienced to react. Some of the difficult ones like Rajput glared back but said nothing.
As Abhijeet, one of the students, began with his seminar, the class made different noises. Abhijit also spoke monotonously and as he just read out the contents of his transparency slide. Then he finished in about five minutes and was moving towards his seat when the faculty asked him to stop for questions. He reluctantly stopped where he was. They then asked him to stand on the podium. He dragged his feet to the podium. The faculty asked him some questions to which he responded in short sentences.
The next was Arnav.
Arnav climbed to the stage gracefully. He spoke in the most alluring voice and in the most luxurious English accent, stressing on every syllable. Even his lip movements seemed to be practised.
He didnât read out the contents of his slide, rather he explained everything in his own words, using diagrams, charts and graphs. He seemed very good on stage and spoke for about twenty minutes. Had any other student taken twenty minutes for the seminar, the other students would have started coughing and tapping the ground with their feet or they would have simply started clapping even before the whole thing had finished. But as Arnav had created a spell with his voice, no one tried any such thing.
When he finished speaking, he politely asked the teachers if they had any questions for him. They looked at each othersâ faces.
