Dear Beryl,

I trust all is well with you. Has Cedric been out to help as he promised?

It will take me a while to adjust to this new way of life. I’ve met so many new folks. I hope I can keep the names straight in my memory. The camp is tidy and cozy enough, the food hardy, and the days busy. With the sawmill operational not only in the summer months but the winter as well, Morse is a busy, little town. The horses and I run as many loads of logs into town as we can. I lost track today.

Benny and Betty are well enough and don’t seem to mind the hard work. They are the best set of horses I have ever worked with. We are just one of several teams in the camp closest to town.

Has it snowed much at home yet? It snowed here again today and yesterday. It would be too deep for the team, but the road crew clears and ices the roads to make the sleds run smoothly.

I better get tucked in my bunk for the night. Give Buster a pat on the head for me. Take care.

Your husband,

Edward
