A shadow casts over the lip of the bridge, lengthened by the lowering sun till it touches the water and darkens the speeding current. A hand as large as my face, the pale green of a three-months drowned corpse caught up in seaweed, grips the parapet. It looks capable of tearing the stones straight from the mortar and crushing them to dust with a squeeze. Sounds plausible. I reckon the hand’s owner’s entirely capable of just that.
