“Choice begins the moment you disidentify from the mind and its conditioned patterns, the moment you become present.… Until you reach that point, you are unconscious.”

—Gabor Maté

Something that comes up for me, even relatively recently, is the feeling of being grossed out at being in a body. The deeper I go into embodiment, into this form, the deeper the layers of unconscious shame, guilt, anger, repression—all the stuck stuff I’ve hidden away deep down since childhood, or even ancestrally if we want to include that dimension of experience—are residing, waiting to be acknowledged and released. My parents reminded me once that even as a baby, they would find my poops on the ground, hidden around my room because I would climb out of my crib to go to relieve myself instead of having to poop in my diaper and then sit in it. Even as a child I was grossed out by my body’s natural functions and felt like its natural expression was something I had to hide and maybe even feel ashamed of. And never mind sexuality—that’s a whole other can of worms we’ll get into more in our exploration into authenticity, which is our capacity for expression of our sexual and life force energy.

What I’ve come to settle more into recently is the awareness that as multidimensional beings, it can feel extremely unsettling to be back in a body after what seems to be a long while. It’s awkward being contained in a form after existing as our pure energetic essence for what feels like infinity. Of course we’re going to have some awkward growing and remembering to do being back in Earth School in these sacred vessels—they take some getting used to. And it’s okay to be awkward and stumble along the way. We think being in the body is uncomfortable until we actually learn, practice, and commit to being in it. The moment being in the body becomes comfortable, being in the mind actually becomes uncomfortable.

Secret’s out: No one really knows what they’re doing here on Earth (we’re like angels—just winging it), and if they claim to then you know to really pay attention to how their presence resounds in your being. Does it feel good to listen to them or does something about the way they are feel off? Always trust what feels right to you—your body is a barometer for truth, remember? You know what is true by the way it feels for you. The more attuned we become to ourselves and our desires, wants, and needs—and the more we give ourselves all we require to feel safe and supported, the more easily we can discern truth in the world around us.
