Sybil

Icarus.

No sooner had she heard the name, Sybil pushed her mind back into the data streams that only she could see, the vibrant strands of infinite consciousness that flowed throughout the entire Citadel.

Each data stream was dedicated to an entire millennium. Once she was connected to one navigating the centuries, decades, years, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes, seconds and even milliseconds were nothing. If she had a name, just a name, then the Citadel did the rest.

Sybil spent most of her time in the 24th century, this being Jericho’s primary stomping ground, as he called it, so if another Paladin was there, theoretically, she couldn’t help but pick him up. Jericho’s link to her as his Partisan made him inescapable to her gaze no matter when or where he roamed.

But since Icarus wasn’t her Paladin, the process was slightly more manual and, without the proper details, slightly impossible.

But now she had all the details she needed.

Sybil, now plugged into the 20th century, started her search. She was also from this century, so the connection went seamlessly.

1919, Ireland, Icarus.

She found him in exactly fourteen seconds. The scene before her was of Jericho, the older one, speaking to the man called Icarus.

Sybil skipped ahead to him becoming a Paladin, having to change to the 31st century in the process. She did briefly stop on his binding process and watched, waiting for his new Paladin genetic code to reveal itself…

Then she saw it, logging it and backing out of the data stream.

Jericho was still listening to the recorded message from his future self when Sybil cross referenced Icarus’ code against the 24th century.

And then she saw him, standing in a conference room behind General Joshua, who was seated at the head of the table.

“It’s quite simple, really,” Joshua said to the military men sitting around the table. “You either fall in line or you die.”

Sybil examined the room, seeing that the occupants of the table were either frightened, confused or angry. She also saw a dead body on the floor next the head of the table.

Moscow.

One of the men spoke, saying that Joshua did not have the authority to command the Bears—then he lifted into the air suddenly, crying out before struggling and slumping over, blood dripping from his nose.

Icarus lowered his hand, tossing the man’s body into one of the walls.

“Well, that’s settled,” Joshua said. “Now, gentlemen, let’s talk strategy. Who’s overseen our occupation of North America?”

A man on the right side of the table raised his hand.

“Very good,” the newly appointed general said before nodding to Icarus. “Kill him, as well.”

“But I—” the larger man tried to protest before getting hauled into the air.

Icarus only had one hand up, his other stuffed in his jeans pocket when Joshua said, “Can’t you do this one with a little more flare? We are making a statement, after all.”

Icarus frowned at the back of Joshua’s head, shrugged, then pulled his other hand out of his pocket, snapping his fingers and the spinning, begging man burst into flames.
