I reveled in the burning pain running the length of my arms and the influx of testosterone coursing through my veins as I slammed my hammers on the metal. It sang to me, telling me exactly where I needed to strike, and how hard to make it bend to my will, smoothing it out to make it ring in perfect harmony.

The physical strain of working with deutenium was the closest thing I had found to the pleasure of combatting a foe in a no-holds-barred battle. But it was even more enjoyable to the extent that each blow aimed at creating lethal beauty rather than destroying. And the challenge my mate had set with those galactic standards thrilled me.

However, thoughts of Rihanna reawakened my growing worry at her absence. I should have warned her I’d be leaving early for a hunt. It was such a well-known fact within the clan that it slipped my mind to inform her. As she’d been sleeping in quite late due to her jet lag, I’d hoped to be back before she awakened, or shortly thereafter. She’d looked so delicate and peaceful in our massive bed that I hadn’t had the heart to wake her to tell her before I left.

Obviously, Jerdea had informed me of her visit to Kastan. The path there was safe enough that Rihanna could have gone on her own. But it reassured me that she had a bodyguard, even though I didn’t quite understand her choice of Wonjin. What was my mate up to? At least, I had no doubt he would keep her safe. She’d just been gone a really long time.

Still, my heart soared at the other news Jerdea had shared with me. She’d successfully connected to the UPO network and was diligently setting it up so that every household in Mutarak and every other Yurus clan could also access it. A number of our females were already lined up to scour through every relevant site to help me achieve my goal… our goal.

It would not only give my people a real chance at a prosperous future, but it would make a safer environment that my Rihanna would wish to live in and raise our offspring. The violent sense of longing that struck when the image of my pregnant mate flashed before my mind’s eye left me reeling. How had she grown so much on me in such a short time?

The large side door opening startled me out of my musings. As if summoned by my thoughts, Rihanna walked in next to her speeder. Behind her, Wonjin, still seated on his krogi, nodded at me. I returned the gesture, and he rode off.

“You’re back!” Rihanna said with an enthusiasm that warmed my heart. “How did the hunt go?”

Even as she asked the question, she continued to the back to park her speeder before returning to me.

“Very well,” I said, still hammering the metal. “I do not mean to be rude, but deutenium is very temperamental. I cannot stop now or this work will be wasted.
