Chapter 12: Company We Keep
Germany
Jeremy walked out of his hotel room door and felt a knife press against his back.
The man behind him started to mutter a threat, but Jeremy didnât let him get a word out.
He twisted his upper body ninety degrees to the left, making his body a narrower profile. Then he elbowed the wrist with the knife with his left, shoving it out of alignment with his body entirely.
He stepped into the attacker and wrapped his left arm around the attackerâs. Jeremyâs right elbow came up at the same time, snapping the attackerâs nose like a twig.
Jeremy stepped back with the left foot, reaching over with his free hand to wrap his hand around the attackerâs fingers. He slid the hand wrapped around the wrist of the hand holding the knife.
Now that the attackerâs knife hand was wrapped up with both hands, Jeremy took a large step back with his right foot, twisting and rotating the entire arm with the knife. The rotational break forced the attacker to bend in half lest his arm snapped. Then the arm snapped anywayâthe forearm, elbow, and finally, the wrist exploded like a bowl of Rice Krispies trying to duplicate the 1812 Overture.
Jeremy pulled forward, and the knifeman fell to his face.
âJohan!â a man screamed from down the hall.
Jeremy looked up at the other man charging him. He held onto the broken arm as he stepped away from the newcomer, putting the injured attacker between the two of them. Jeremyâs hands were still around the knife hand, pointing the blade's point at the incoming attack.
The newcomer didnât see the knife until he ran himself upon it. He stopped, impaled, and didnât even drop his own knife.
Jeremy let go of the first knife and clamped both hands around the new attackerâs knife. It was already point-down to stab Jeremy in the face. All Jeremy did was to pull it down and plunge it into the back of the first attacker â into his kidneys.
Jeremy stepped around both dead men as they bled out on the hotel carpet.
Jeremy looked around, looking for more attackers. He took several slow, deep breaths through his nose, calming himself before the adrenaline rush triggered any PTSD flashbacks or his anxiety disorder.
Between the demon who held him at knifepoint and who slashed his motherâs throat open in front of him, then the cult who kidnapped him and threatened to dismember him alive and throw him into a fire pit, heâd had an active childhood. Ever since the first attack, heâd been trained for years to handle things like this. Heâd trained at his Krav Maga school. Heâd seen Father Freeman to deal with the terrors that plagued his dreams. He consulted with Swiss Guards with Spec Ops experience so they could teach him to control the panic of combat and the terrors of fighting demons.
Idiots with knives didnât concern him that much.
Jeremy frowned for a moment and wondered what would have happened had he told his father any of it, really.
