There are moments in every writer’s life when he or she stumbles upon a great idea. It’s hard to explain how this happens, but a great idea often feels electric, like your brain has just been shocked awake with a vision. Your heart may beat faster and your chest may tighten, and you may feel like you must express the idea otherwise you’ll explode.

It can sometimes be difficult to tell the difference between a great idea and a heart attack, but if you maintain a healthy diet and exercise you have no reason to worry.

Since you cannot spend your time waiting for a great idea to simply fall into your lap, you must brainstorm. It’s called brainstorming because you need to storm a great idea out of its hiding place in the brain.

Shout at your brain, “Give me a good idea now, please!!” and write down everything that comes to mind. Then, use the following rubric to test its quality.
