HOW TO OPERATE A MILITARY-GRADE EXOSKELETON
Sometimes being human just isn’t enough — like when you need to heft a two-ton, wrought-iron cannonade and smash it through the mast of an enemy pirate ship. Situations like that call for mechanical assistance in the form of a gleaming, metal-plated robotic exoskeleton. Climb in, power up, and kick ass.
Weigh your options
As we have noted, several types of exoskeleton exist. Keep in mind that as a hulking, robotic-limbed monster on the battlefield, you may become a glaringly obvious target. Choose wisely:
→Passive-dynamic suit. Built of lightweight aluminum, these suits use springs and specific bursts of power to increase sprint speeds and take the load off human limbs. Although they are usually easy to remove and too light to crush you in a fall, a passive-dynamic power suit will not stop bullets or alien acid-sprays.
→Force-feedback suit. This suit takes longer to respond to movements because it waits until your muscles push against integrated force sensors before sending power to its robot limbs. On the bright side, you can unstrap and leap out of the suit at the first sign of trouble.
→EEG interface. This suit moves as fast as, or faster than, the limbs you were born with because it takes commands directly from EEG sensors stuck all over your body. Once you suit up, however, you will not be getting out anytime soon — peeling off all those sensors takes a while. However, for defenders of planet Earth who have physical disabilities, this super suit is your only option.
