Homemade Luxardo Cherries
Ingredients:
½ cup white sugar
1 tablespoon real vanilla
1 cinnamon stick
A pinch of nutmeg
2 tablespoons lemon juice
½ cup water
1 pound frozen cherries
1 cup Luxardo liqueur
In a medium saucepan combine sugar, vanilla, cinnamon stick, nutmeg, lemon juice, and water. Bring to a boil for 2â3 minutes. Turn the heat down to low. Add cherries and let simmer for about 5 minutes until sauce begins to thicken slightly. Remove from heat and add the liqueur. Let cool, and store in airtight container in refrigerator.
Optional: Replace Luxardo liqueur with ½ cup of your favorite bourbon
Recommended: When all of the cherries are gone, reduce the juice into a sauce and serve over ice cream or a bowl of mixed berries. It is delicious!
