Carl Jung had Sigmund Freud; Yves Saint-Laurent had Christian Dior; Mark Zuckerberg had Steve Jobs; even Pope Benedict XVI says he was mentored by Pope John Paul II. It can feel like finding your mentor is almost as important as finding your job! But, beware, a mentor can also cramp your style, and sometimes taking a mentor’s advice whole cloth will prevent you from nabbing that promotion. You want to take advice, but always be true to who you are.

When Charlotte started in her junior analyst role in the private wealth management division of the best investment bank in the world, she was full of gusto.
