The days bleed together like stab wounds, painful and ever-flowing. I do not remember a time when I was happy or free from the burden of torment. Typhon leaves to rest at night, but I never feel I can escape him.

Hecate stopped talking again, and I no longer have the mental strength to rouse her from her inner thoughts. Hephaestus screams throughout the night, and Ares doesn’t sleep; he stares at nothingness without blinking.

I try to sleep, but now my body doesn’t heal as quickly. I am a shriveled up version of myself, and there are not enough words to explain how my body is depleted of strength and motivation. My energy is zapped, and I am in an icy maze of pain and anguish. Every corner of this proverbial maze I trudge through, I suffer more.

Sleep is a rare mercy, but I find sleep’s affection for a few minutes each night. I lay in my cage and shiver and moan. My mind wanders to Saffron. I try to picture her face because I want a semblance of happiness, but she is too far away. A fog rests over me, and I am blinded by her.

Each night, I weep.

My eyes are half-closed when Epiales comes into view. He walks to my cage with a pillow under one arm and a blanket under the other. I hate him more viciously than Typhon and Kronos, but I won’t admit to myself why I hate him most. He is not the cruelest, but that doesn’t dissuade my ire.

He kneels in front of my cage, and he drapes the blanket over my frigid body. I have enough energy to pick up my head, and he slides the pillow underneath.

Epiales says in a softer tone than I’m used to. “She’s doing okay.” I do not respond to him. Epiales nods his head when I look at him, then stands to his full height and says. “I’ll give you another update tomorrow. Goodnight, Hermes.”

He walks away, and I sleep for more than a few minutes.

I sleep throughout the night.
