Chapter
Seven
There were few things on this side of the grave better than a hot shower and clean hair. Standing in a bathroom fit for a queen, I unwrapped my locs, tossed the damp towel in the hamper, and rewrapped it with another.
Steam and the heady scent of citrus with undernotes of vanilla and something else filled the air of a bathroom the size of a large suburban bedroom. My visit might be brief, but I had every intention of getting well acquainted with that sunken tub.
I cupped my hands over my nose and mouth. What kind of magic was in that lotion? Seriously, I was absolutely, positively in love. Come on? What was not to like about a man who understood the importance of moisturizer?
And did I mention the hair products?
Either Ash, or the mistress of moisture on his staff, was absolutely going on Santaâs nice list.
But as much as I could live in the bathroom, I should probably get dressed.
I sighed, tightened the belt on my robe, then reluctantly left my private sanctuary.
âNow, you and I can get properly acquainted,â I said to the large bed with a gauzy white mosquito netting. âAlright Mr. Ash Modeus, that bed is almost as tempting as you are. Good job.â
Each time I said his name, something tickled the back of my mind. But like a wisp of smoke, each time I reached for it, the memory dissipated.
I flopped down on the bed, sinking into the soft duvet and feather mattress beneath it. Oh yeah, this was going to be the best work vacation ever. You know, if I managed to live until tomorrow. To be on the safe side, I wonât count myself free until five-thirty-seven, one minute past the time of my momentous arrival in the world. Only then, would I be truly free.
A soft knock sounded at the door.
âCrap.â Iâd like to believe I leapt gracefully from the bed, but why lie? It was more like a roll and bounce and grunt. I glanced down to make sure the girls hadnât exploded from the robe, then walked over to the door.
Before my fingers grazed the knob, I knew who stood on the other side.
I opened it and... whew.
Jean clad Ash was hot, business suit Ash was intimidating, but this Ash, still sweaty with a towel around his neck and t-shirt clinging to his chest was criminally seductive.
And I had a snowballâs chance in hell of tapping that. You know... if I were in the market for a booty call.
My hands flittered to the towel wrapped around my hair. Yeah, not exactly sexy, but who the hell was I kidding?
Iâll take realistic for a hundred, Alex.
Ashâs lips twitched.
âPlease tell me I did not say that out loud.â My libido needed to hop off the express train to the gutter.
âSay what?â
I ignored his chuckle and crossed my arms under the breasts that without a bra could now be classified as 38 longs. Some things about aging werenât so great.
âIâm glad I caught you before you dressed, may I come in?â he asked.
