CHAPTER 21

Edward froze in his tracks. Up ahead in the distance he had watched his prey turn off the pavement and into a small city park. Then he had seen their infernal leader, Jake come back to the entrance. He had taken his pack off and laid down in the grass. What does he have in his hands? Edward had stopped in mid stride, underneath the long low boughs of a maple tree. The overcast sky and absence of sunlight practically shading him from sight.

The leader of the pack held something small up to his eyes, and for a brief moment Edward could feel his gaze upon him. Can he see us? He can! The thought broke Edward from his statue like demeanor.

"Did he see me? Does he know it's me?" He whispered to the commanding voice in his head. Yes, I think he sees us, but I don't think he knows it is us. If he did, he wouldn't still be lying there, right?

He felt around in his pockets worried for his other posessions, when he felt the gun. The cold heavy steel pressed against his thigh. Edward was a novice when it came to firearms. He only knew that handguns were sometimes called pistols or Glock's. He wasn't sure what he had or even how to work it. He didn't care. All he cared about was getting even with those that wronged him and the company. His grip on the gun became painful and the metal felt white hot in his palm. The anger in him rising like bile, he could taste it. Not yet, the voice pleaded but Edward ignored it. He carefully inched closer to the opening he had come through and searched for those probing eyes. They were gone. He was gone! Where did he go? We must find him!

"No, not yet. We will find him. It's good that he didn't see me, but he will. He will look at me and know that I am not a coward and weakling and that I can hold my
