Good Sun arrived at my hut before sunrise with several other mosquitoes. Among them were two of those white ones I had seen in the black mass under the mahogany and many of the tiny ones I saw hovering over the lake. Good Sun informed me this was the commission the Supreme Council had appointed to help me devise the plan of attack on humanity. The white mosquitoes were Supreme Council representatives and kept informed the messengers who, traversing the entire globe, carried messages between the High Councils. The tiny ones were Great Treasury accountants. The rest were mere recordkeepers and logicians. Good Sun began to speak:

“Human,” he said to me, “the Supreme Council, whose name mustn’t be pronounced, has selected these mosquitoes in my company as the commission. Posthaste and with your input, we want to devise a strategy for perfect combat to achieve the goals laid out for you last night, which you have accepted. Look, you have a friend in this mosquito — white as the air he flies; his name is Swift Wind, and he can tell us the capacities of every corpus across the globe. This other, smaller comrade is responsible for memorizing the accounts of all the corpora’s treasuries and arsenals; his name is Infinite Memory. Each of them, as you can see, is accompanied by his consultants, and there are enough recordkeepers here to ensure that what we say will be remembered forever. And with that, let’s begin our deliberations as soon as possible.”

“Let’s start right away,” I said, thinking about how the white men were making their way through the jungle and how, despite Yellow Bird’s speed, they might find us at any moment. Neither their presence nor their potential realization that the Lacandon considered me a god was in my interest.

We set to work right away and started organizing our plan, which the recordkeepers repeated in endless, unbroken whispers. To begin, we calculated the forces we had at our disposal, and I informed them of the humans’ resources for battle. Given that mankind’s principal resource is oil, we resolved that our first objective was to seize the oil fields. Without oil, society would already essentially be paralyzed; even so, we still thought it would be worthwhile to destroy the electric plants, railways, and seaports. To achieve such destruction, squadrons of mosquitoes would be deployed with bacteria to kill every human working in these zones.

With the world thus paralyzed — although of course we wouldn’t interfere with the fields or farmers — we figured it would be simple to impose our conditions for peace and to focus on reorganizing society according to our vision.

The majority of the mosquito corpora are located near the equator, between thirty degrees latitude north and south, so the attacks would begin at the equator itself, moving north and south simultaneously. Each mosquito corpus would seek out a pool of water in some convenient location to incubate several million soldier larvae and the bacteria necessary to arm them.
