The kids were in hiding with their grandparents and should have arrived in Orkney by now. The Patriot support team, which Jimmy had been in charge of, had made sure that they had covered their tracks. General MacKay was also in hiding, the U.K. Government having literally placed a price on his head when a reward was publicised on the television and in the daily newspapers. What they didn't realise was that he was no longer in the country, but staying at a cabin in Norway owned by Wullie Beaton’s friend, Finn Alexander, a former Norwegian soldier and contractor. Finn and Wullie had met in Iraq while protecting oilfield workers who were upgrading the oil fields near Basra a few years earlier.

John MacKay had been busy organising supplies from supporters worldwide, having been in touch with a Scottish oil baron based in Texas, and other Scottish businessmen worldwide. The American based ones were busy organising ammunition and firearms for the uprising in their homeland. Food was being shipped from the EU by friendly governments, coming ashore on fishing vessels, the owners of which had been paid well by their own governments. The reason for this was in no small way purely selfish, for keeping the EU together was of paramount importance to them. Since Brexit was launched, the far-right parties in Germany, France Italy and the other twenty-four member nations were winning support for similar policies. The EU was in danger of collapsing and pro-European governments were supporting Scotland’s run for independence, all under the counter, as they couldn’t be seen to the world to be aiding what Westminster had declared a terrorist organization. But under the counter, all bets were off, the EU had to survive at all costs, and Scotland would be accepted into the fold if the UK backed off.

John MacKay was walking down by the lake enjoying the scenery, looking up at the mountain tops all around him. He loved the area, and he watched the deer as they were wandering closer to the water’s edge. He used these walks to help centre his mind, planning operations for the cause, but for the last few days he had had no contact with Davie, and this was worrying. He knew the group had left the compound, and that Davie was standing fast, hoping to dissuade the UK from carrying on, and to convince them to let Scotland have her independence. The only positives he had heard was that sixty special forces soldiers and seven regular soldiers from 1 Parachute Battalion were killed when a Chinook went down in the North West highlands during a training exercise. John, however, saw through this, the Chinook HC2 could only carry 50 soldiers, so the MoD were covering up something.

John had just decided to sit down on a flat rock when he saw Finn walking over, the ever-present Valmet rifle in his hands and a Kizlyar knife on his hip. Finn had taken the favour seriously when Wullie had contacted him out of the blue on a phone number he didn’t recognise.
