SAN JOSE DE GRACIA CHURCH ALTAR, JANUARY 1943. The main altar screen was probably built in the early 1800s. It was overpainted in 1860 by Jose de Gracia Gonzales, a Mexican santero (a painter or carver of images of saints). On the altar itself are two santos (carved images of saints). LADDER TO CHOIR LOFT, OCTOBER1961. Just inside the front entry door to San Jose de Gracia Church is this ladder leading up to the choir loft. The choir could sing indoors from the loft in the sanctuary, or go outside through a door in the loft to the outer balcony to sing for outdoor processions.
