Chapter 17 - The Charity

Diva's Viewpoint

I left Psystar, Tiriffa, and the strange new alien woman, Serreka, at the house to go buy, once again, a new dress, scarf and shoes for tonight. I flew to the same store I bought the last dress from, and picked up another of the same thing. That saved a lot of time in trying on dresses, and it wasn't as if I had time to wear the dress I bought on Friday night.

I returned home to clean up, put on makeup, and do my hair prior to the charity gala. I wanted to look hot. Silverlash was a beautiful woman, and of more normal proportions. I didn't want her stealing my looks from others at the event.

As I put on a necklace and bracelets, I was glad I wasn't being a super hero for an evening. I missed wearing jewelry all the time. Nothing actually stopped me from using it with my costume, but enough had already been lost that it was expensive and depressing to replace. It was a good thing I had a credit card, I didn't have to worry about not having money. I didn't want to carry a purse, so I put on a strong garter belt for my phone and attached ID card.

The house felt quiet as I walked to the front door. I wished the others had chosen a different night to go to the silly circus. I shrugged, left the house, and leaped into the air for my flight to the Johansen Center, a place in northeast Metrocity that hosted large events.

Shortly before 6 P.M., I flew down toward the building. A group of news cameras and paparazzi were lined up outside. I bounced on the ground at the far end of the red carpet in front of the entrance. I checked my shoes, and was happy that landing on the balls of my feet avoided damage to the heels.

I smiled at the cameras as I walked past. I loved having pictures taken of me. I had chosen the dress because it highlighted my rounded parts rather than my oversized muscles. I hoped that the photos didn't add another ten pounds; I already felt self conscious about the muscle.

I saw someone ahead of me hand an invitation card to the greeter outside the door. I realized I didn't have one as I approached, but the man smiled at me.

He said, "Miss Diva?"

I nodded.

"You're on the list. Please head in, and enjoy your evening."

"Thank you."

The facility was gorgeous. It had lavish marble floors and columns, polished cherry stairs and woodwork. The walls were decorated with expensive art. Statues sat on short pillars around the room. An awesome fragrance wafted through the air. It reminded me a lot of Stephanie, and I wished my friend were with me.

Several handsome men in tuxedos kissed my hand. They were older than I was, and I unconsciously glanced at their hands to see if they had wedding rings on. A server approached and offered me hors d'oeuvres and champagne.
