âCould you stop that?â Bryce asked. âYouâre drawing attention.â
Lulu kept dancing. âI didnât wear something this low-cut to not draw attention.â She smiled at a man looking her way. âHey.â
Bryce adjusted his tie. âIâm going to approach the target.â
Lulu continued dancing. âWhat a cute pet name you have for her.â
Bryce sauntered up to Lapointe. She looked at him with a reserved expression. âI have to say,â Bryce said, wearing his very well-practiced, charming smile, âthat you look absolutely gorgeous tonight.â
Lapointe set her drink down on a nearby table, and her gaze intensified. âThis dress was specifically tailored to emphasize my figure â a figure Iâve worked hard on to ensure it is not too thin nor too muscular, but toned and healthy-looking. The dark color of the dress contrasts with my eyes, the color of a bright summer sky. My hair is youthful but regal and a natural blond like spun gold. My makeup is a light touch, not distracting from my perfect features but enhancing them. The décolletage of my dress is specifically designed to entice while not revealing too much. And my posture is one that emphasizes my assets while conveying both femininity and power. So why the hell would you think Iâd need some little loser in a cheap suit to come tell me Iâm âgorgeous,â when I know with both scientific and artistic certainty that Iâm absolutely stunning?â
Without a word, Bryce slowly turned around and slunk back to Lulu, who had finally stopped dancing and was downing some punch. âI think I might be out of my league.â
âWow; youâre absolutely pale.â Lulu finished off her drink. âWell, every woman has some insecurities to exploit. Lemme have a go at old Murray.â
Lulu pranced up to Lapointe, who barely regarded her presence. âGreat party,â Lulu beamed. âSo whatâs it for? Your fiftieth birthday?â
Now Lulu had Lapointeâs full attention. âSomeone grab her and execute her!â Lapointe shouted.
As Lapointe kept staring at Lulu and no one came to execute her, it eventually became awkward, and Lulu slunk back to Bryce. âYeah, sheâs a tough nut to crack.â
âHello, Princess Dragon Lady.â
Bryce and Lulu turned to see Rook approaching them with his âmuscle,â Candy, at his side in a purple dress. âHey, Rook!â Lulu answered. âHowâs it going? You moving either vertically or horizontally?â
âHa, I get it,â Rook said, not smiling.
Bryce smiled at Candy. âI have to say that you are looking absolutely gorgeous tonight.â
Candy giggled and blushed.
Bryce whispered to Lulu, âSee, I still have it.â
âThis is kind of a new thing for me,â Candy said. âThis is my first enforcer assignment where Iâm in a dress. Driscoll didnât really have advice for how to conceal weapons in one of these; I had to figure out how to do it myself.â
âWeâre not doing small talk with them,â Rook told Candy.
âI see; you want to get right to it.â Lulu pressed close to Rook. âSo ditch this floozy next to you and let us make love on the dance floor.â
Rook kept his eyes firmly on her face.
