He was sitting in a wooden chair with a small cane in one

hand. The man seemed to be frowning, but it could have been due

to the wrinkles that had eased their way onto his face over the

years. On the back of his left hand was a tattoo. When Draezon

walked towards the man, he saw the insignia more clearly. A hand

was the focal point of the mark, and an eye rested in the palm of it.

Eight other hands surrounded the main one, as if they were rays of

the sun.

“Goodman, I am Draezon Talon, and I am journeying west

to request aid for the war effort against the demons that have

invaded Khaz’nà. I am here now, seeking your permission to have

your daughter accompany us,” Draezon said.

“Yes, yes, she told me everything,” replied the man. “And

we fought for many hours last night over it.” Not hearing anything

more for many seconds, Draezon held his hands out in waiting,

hoping to draw some sort of answer. “What, do you want me to

shout at you?” replied the man. “I’ll give you the answer! First off,

you are a necromancer, of the Dead Hand Clan! I have not seen one

of your kind in twenty years. Interesting wielders of magic you

may be, but you still deal with death.”

“Secondly, why should I leave my darling girl with you, of

all people? You are a stranger who comes storming into our village

demanding troops. Next you demand my daughter! Honestly, who

do you think you are? Why do you believe that you can take her

from me?”

“Goodman Kadok, your daughter found something in me

that she trusted,” Draezon said. “I found something in her that I

trusted. I humbly request that she can accompany us on our

journey.”

“But this ‘love’ you are hinting at…is too young and

probably false!” the old man roared, and Draezon wondered if the

man was overreacting for he had never said the word once to Freya.

“It is merely a small feeling that can pass within a month!”

“Don’t you trust your daughter in her decisions?” Draezon

asked. “Haven’t you taught her well enough that she could fight

me off with her spells and come back to you?”
