[DR. GORDON says nothing; he continues to watch the dance. MARK and VIRGINIA join the circle, and then WALTER and ADELINE. From a circle dance it becomes linear, a courtly dance in the Regency fashion, with much bowing and waving of fans.

Abruptly, HOWARD puts his hand on PARIS’s shoulder, and the dancers freeze; then PARIS puts her arm around HOWARD’s neck, and they begin a close dance, a tango. The others follow.

Partners are changed, hold each other closer. Then all at once all form disappears, and the six players are in a shifting, balletic, erotic knot; hands slip over throats and under shirts, lips touch, bodies collide.

DR. GORDON begins to rise from his chair, but sits back, folds his arms firmly upon the lectern.

WALTER pushes back the cuffs of VIRGINIA’s sweatshirt, showing bandages wrapping her wrists; he closes his hands over them and they dance to his direction.]
