• Just do it. Take the risk.

• Be brave. When you start to have problems, make it work anyway.

• Be persistent. If it seems as if your project is going off track, don’t give up. Get it back on track and prove to yourself and others just how competent and confident you can be.

TAKING A LEAD ON LEADERSHIP

• There is no single appropriate leadership style.

• Choose a leadership style based on the competence and commitment level of the employee.

• Setting clear goals is key.

• Supporting and coaching may be comfortable, but directing and delegating are also effective styles.

• Don’t back away from leadership positions.

• Although the flat structure may be more familiar, the hierarchy is usually where you live.

• To a man, either you’re above him or below him in the hierarchy, and if you’re above, you’d better call the shots.

• Women employees will often expect to be collaborative, but that isn’t always the most appropriate style.

• Women resist “serving” other women.

• When another woman wins accolades, be sure to support her.

• You must be powerful to be successful.

• You can be both powerful and feminine, but it takes work and experimentation.

• Accept reality: Embrace your power.

• Don’t take power away from women and hand it to men.

• Make it up and act as if you know!

• To become confident, just do it, be brave, and be persistent.
