CHAPTER SEVEN
Club Business
During the next three months the tensions with the Rojos skyrocketed. Nothing major happened, but each time the two groups intersected at the Red Bull, or anywhere else, things got tense. Luke did his best to find dirt to get himself out from under the undercover policeâs noses, but he had nothing to report. At least his ass was still connected to his body and Emily was safe. He hadnât heard from her, not that he expected to. Her safety would have to be enough, though his dreams at night told him he wanted more.
That Friday night, at the Red Bull, Luke wanted to forget thinking about Emily for one night. A group of Westfield Rojos stared him and the Hadesâ Spawn members down. The quiet evening Luke anticipated at the Red Bull threatened to ignite into a firestorm.
âThose fuckers,â said Aces as he, Luke, Dagger, Wolf and a couple of the new brothers hung at the bar. âTheyâre looking for a beat down.â
âItâs nothing, Aces,â said Luke, hoping to defuse the situation.
âTheyâre disrespecting us.â
âThe Red Bull is neutral ground, man. Rocco doesnât tolerate any violence.â
Aces made a noise of disgust. âTheyâll deserve what they get.â
Luke put his hand on Kinneyâs arm, which drew a warning look from the man. Fortunately, a couple of distractions walked into the bar. Luke didnât who know the women were, but they were just the sort that Kinney found attractive. The girls had their hair teased high and wore too much make-up. Luke waved the women over.
They sauntered toward the table with an over-attempted sexy sway to their hips. A blonde twirled a tendril of hair, giving Luke an appraising look. At Lukeâs wave Kinney glanced over his shoulder.
âShit, Spade. How do you get away with that?â growled Kinney.
âMy winning personality,â grinned Luke. âCan I buy you ladies a drink?â
âSure, sugar,â said the blonde. âWhat are you drinking?"
âJack and Coke.â Luke expected a large gum bubble to pop out of her mouth. He was almost disappointed when it didnât.
âIâll take the same.â
âAnd what about your friend?â
The girl looked at Luke and then to Kinney, giving him the once over. âWhat you drinking, hon?â she said.
âSam Adams,â he said, tipping his beer.
âSounds good.â
They were the right amount of distraction. The evening progressed and the Rojos were all but forgotten as the ladies grew friendlier with each drink they downed. Wolf, Dagger and the rest of the crew drifted off to the pool tables.
âHow about we find a quieter place for this party,â suggested Kinneyâs girl, whose name turned out to be Jeannie.
âHow about we take a walk outside? We can figure out what we want to do,â suggested Aces.
âSure, hon.â
âLetâs go, then. Come on, Spade.â
With a small shake of his head Luke paid for the drinks with a couple of fifties. He trusted John, who would make sure any surplus ran as a credit on his bar tab. The tab was a privilege of being a long-time customer, and Luke was one of the few regulars who had one.
