Chapter 9: The Queen Must Die…

Transports, and Imperial shuttles are parked, round about an insignificant subterranean docking bay. Some exotics, some a bit beat up and worn. In the distance, Trensic and Crone are entering a small shuttle. Vannaon and Osharah stand at an entrance and just watch them. They try to board a separate shuttle. As they approach, two burly guards step to. One guard raises his hand to them and blocks access.

“I’m sorry sir,” the guard says. “I’m afraid the President has halted all Imperial traffic, unless authorized by her. You’ll have to use the public transport tunnels until Imperial traffic is cleared to resume operations.

Admiral Vannaon’s face twist with both anger and anxiety.

“Those tunnels run over ninety miles underground before they let out,” Vannaon shouts angrily.

Osharah turns away with fury then she and Vannaon walk away. They hear the engines of Trensic’s shuttle ignite and then helplessly watch the shuttle launch. Osharah slaps a button on her wrist-communicator with her finger. The communicator beeps then Osharah lifts it to her mouth and barks commands.

“Osharah to Novarrian One,” Osharah shouts at the communicator, “Request emergency transport.”

Some distance away, in the Imperial Parking lot, Nika’s Dodge Stealth computer beeps several times, then its control panel lights up and activates. Its computer screen diagrams a course to Osharah’s location.

“Voice pattern recognized.” The computer confirms with an attractive African-American male voice. “All systems engaged.”

The Dodge Stealth’s engine starts with a mean ignition and a mechanical snorting-growl. Tires spinning and with a wailing-howl, the car speeds off. It leaps over row of transports blocking its direct path. Sparks ignite the pavement as it lands undamaged.

Osharah and Admiral Vannaon hear the echo of the Stealth’s engine growling within the tunnels. A brief alarm sounds and a tunnel door almost violently springs up. Vannaon sees the transport speeding straight for them. It comes to a screeching halt near both Osharah and Vannaon. Alarmed, Vannaon jumps back but Osharah stands firm. The car doors dramatically open upward. All the impressed Admiral Vannaon could do is admire the work of a Novvack.

Osharah and Vannaon get into the car. Vannaon buckles up but the aggressive Osharah doesn’t bother to secure herself. She begins punching buttons then puts the stick shift in gear and hits the gas. The transport speeds away with an aggressive purr and in complete control as it dodges this transport and that curve up ahead.

Osharah navigates the winding tunnels, at high speeds. The windshield captures a full view of potential obstacles. Vannaon holds on to his seat, literally afraid for his life. He sees Osharah’s steady hand and sharp focus.

“I’ve been an admiral too long. You remind me of the old me. I need to get back to my roots. And I see that the General has rubbed off on you.” Vannaon says with a forced grin.

Suddenly the vehicles in front of the stealth transport begin to come to a hard stop. Unnerved, Vannaon gawks at the traffic jam then at Osharah, who sees the traffic jam and beats the steering wheel with passionate frustration.
