Chapter 9
Mia
Walking back into my apartment I couldnât help but feel relieved that I was finally back. I didnât really like this place, but at least it was my own. I had my own things here, Sammie had his own things. He could sleep in his crib with his blanket. It was home, it might not be much, but it was home, and it felt so good to be back.
âHow about some tummy time?â I said to Sammie as I got his light sweater off him.
He had been good on the drive home this time, something I was very thankful for, and I knew Liam had been as well. The last few hours that we were at the event went off smoothly. A good number of people had asked Liam where he was last night, in which he had to explain being trapped in an elevator. He was greeted by a mixture of sympathy and humor at his predicament.
I, myself, was having a hard time still about the events that transpired within the elevator. I knew we were both pretending like it never happened, but that didnât change that I couldnât stop thinking about it. Part of me couldnât help but wonder if Liam was having the same issue. If his mind was replaying our time together just like my own was. It was silly to wonder, but I couldnât seem to stop. I placed Sammie down on his mat, and I sat down in front of him and watched as he lifted his head up and wiggled. The smile instantly on my face, and this was one of those moments where everything was worth it. To see him happy like this, it truly warmed my heart.
Suddenly my joy morphed into dread as I saw a line of blood slowly creeping down Sammieâs face from his nose. My heart shot up to my throat as worry and panic started to settle in. I was instantly scooping him up and going to grab a tissue to try and stop the bleeding. I knew he hadnât hit his face. I had been watching him the whole time, not to mention he had only been doing tummy time for a couple of minutes. This had never happened before, I didnât even think infants could get nose bleeds.
I had no idea what to do, but the bleeding wasnât slowing down. It left me with no choice but to take him to the hospital to make sure he was ok. I quickly called a taxi before getting Sammie into his car seat and headed out for the hospital.
