CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

Addy

"If you're going to make us hold a plank for three minutes again, I ain't coming back, missy. My back can't take that bullshit," groused Lenny as he shuffled up to me after class. He had his yoga mat rolled and tucked under his spindly arm. He'd started coming to my sunrise class after I gave him that ankle bracelet that matched mine. He still hadn't caught on to the informal dress code that existed for yoga. He had sweat bands on his head and both wrists, as if I just might toss a tennis ball at them when they were in down dog.

I winced, knowing my brain had been a bit preoccupied the last few mornings. Calling out the change in poses had slipped my mind as I went over every second with Ace at the festival on repeat. And everything that happened later in his truck, of course. It wasn't until later that night when I cleaned myself up that I realized we hadn't used a condom. It was late in my cycle, so I didn't anticipate a problem, but apparently Ace hadn't noticed either because he hadn't said anything. I really needed to get my head out of the clouds and be more responsible.

"Nobody actually holdth the pothes she calls out, dumb ath," Yedda cackled, the lack of dentures making for a deep lisp that had me biting my lips to keep from laughing.

"Well, no need for name-calling, Yedda." Lenny turned to her, forgetting about me entirely. "Some of us like to actually follow the class instead of sneaking peeks down everyone's shorts."

Yedda's mouth gaped open before she snapped it shut again and lifted her little nose in the air. "I do no thuch thing."

Lenny batted his hand through the air. "Why do you think no one sets up their mat in front of you anymore, you sick little—"

"Okay, well, thank you both for coming today," I interrupted, not wanting a fight to break out. Meadow assured me that Ace and I were the topic of the town gossip right now and I didn't need a geriatric cat fight to add to the rumors. "We'll have a much livelier class tomorrow, Lenny."

"Well, thank the goddess for that," he mumbled, shuffling off to his vintage golf cart to head home. I grinned, charmed by the grumpy Lenny using one of my phrases. He really was quite good at yoga, especially for someone of indiscernible age. No one really knew how old he was, but based on the wrinkles that stacked up above that sweatband, he had to be pushing eighty at least.

"Like I'd want to see whatever that guy is packing." Yedda did a full-body shiver and then, as she passed me on the way to her ancient light-blue Lincoln that was way too much of a car for her to drive, she gave me a wink.

Now it was my turn to shiver. I'd have to keep a better eye on her in class. I
