Chapter Thirteen

Lo

It’s Monday, exactly one week since I’d returned to work after our explosive encounter over the Fourth of July weekend, and one week to the day since that rather disastrous attempt to establish boundaries.

“Boundaries,” I mutter as I climb out of the car. “More like the fucking Wall of China.”

Only there’s also a moat, one filled with fire-breathing alligators and acidic pond scum, and on the opposite side of the trench, tucked inside his castle, is a cranky dragon who comes out to fuck me every other work day.

And greedily.

Friday, it had been in the morning as soon as I’d arrived and twice in the afternoon as I’d been trying to wrap up for the weekend.

It might have made me wonder if he was starting to feel the same thing I was, but he’d been so chilly afterward that I was afraid to ask.

He wants this to stay…impersonal. Or as impersonal as you can be when you’re fucking each other, so fine. That’s how we will do it.

Halfway up the sidewalk, I realize I’ve forgotten his coffee.

Face hot and feeling both foolish and worried, I panic and check the time, but the front door opens, and he’s looking out at me. I recognize the intensity in his eyes, and I swallow, taking some slow, hesitant steps toward him. “I…um…I forgot your coffee,” I say.

“The new machine came in. I’ll make it here.” He jerks his head impatiently, and I walk toward him, my heart racing.

Once I’m inside, he closes the door, takes my bag and purse, and sets them by the door. “Turn around,” he says in a gruff voice. “Lift your dress.”

My knees shake as I do what he says, but I keep my voice steady as I ask, “Are you going to spank me for forgetting the coffee?”

“You want me to?”

I jump, startled. His voice is right in my ear. He’d moved so close, and I hadn’t even heard him. Now, heat blazes through me at his response—almost playful. After a week of cool distance, I welcome it, but I’m scared and don’t want to read much into it.

“I…” Swallowing, I shrug. “You seemed to enjoy it. Why not?”

“That’s not what I asked.” He bites my earlobe, a sharp little nip that drags a whimper out of me. “Pull your dress up all the way to your waist. And tell me…do you like being spanked, Lo? Like you’ve been a bad girl?”

Face heating, I nod and drag the skirt of my dress up. The skirt is an alternating solid, vibrant pink pattern mixed with pink and white polka-dotted panels. I’d worn a white mock garter stocking paired with pink and white polka-dotted panties, a set that was both sexy and sweet. I heard him let out a rough breath, and it made me smile because I already knew he had approved.

“You have been a bad girl,” Lucas says. “Dressing like that…how can I work knowing you’re dressed like that, Lo?”

“By fucking me first?” I glance at him over my shoulder and smile, and how his eyes look as our gazes connect knocks the air out of me.
