Golf Focus

The initial part of the downswing is very important in determining whether the club head will return to a proper position for impact. Allowing your arms or torso to initiate this movement can lead to many different swing faults. Golfers do this either because they have poor technique or because they have poor strength and control in the lower body muscles. To initiate the downswing, the leg muscles should engage and begin the press toward the lead leg. This initial press puts the lower body in a perfect position to continue with hip, pelvis, and trunk rotation so that proper downswing sequencing can occur. The adductor plank trains the muscles in the legs and trunk that both create this press and provide a stable environment from which to rotate.
