The high points

Thus far, we have seen that whatever method we may use in an attempt to arrive at ultimate truth, there is always the possibility of error, misperception, or self-deception, and there is always room for doubt. Consequently, utter certainty about one’s own level of perfection is out of reach.

And we have seen that perfection is not a static point in time. Rather, it is dynamic and continues to advance, here and throughout eternity. “The work of transformation from unholiness to holiness is a continuous one.”28 Even “in heaven we are continually to improve.”29 “As knowledge is progressive, so will love, reverence, and happiness increase.”30 “Every faculty will be developed, every capacity increased.”31

We have also seen that in the great final conflict, the overcomers will likely come from all classes of society. They will not rely on their own achieved level of faultlessness in order to endure. Instead, they will place their full weight of confidence upon the truths of God’s Word, on Christ’s righteousness, and upon His empowerment to see them through victoriously.

Finally, we recognize that, in the here and now and through the most trying hours of earth’s history, doubt will untiringly strive to hinder faith’s efforts to bridge the gap between what can be confidently demonstrated to be so and what cannot be shown to be indisputable fact; between what can be confirmed and what cannot be proved beyond a shadow of a doubt. “Faith is a well-grounded assurance of that for which we hope, a conviction of the reality of things which we do not see” (Hebrews 11:1, Weymouth).
