Chapter Fifteen

Sitting cross legged on the bed Harlow attempted to braid her hair. Like always it was winning the war, with springing curls popping out here, and there. Wondering why she cared so much, no one here seemed to mind. Well those she had met anyways. It was important to her to make a good impression. She would be meeting the members of Ravens Night tonight at their impromptu meeting.

Bringing the braid around her shoulder, finishing the end, and tying it off. She let it drop. After eating a meal together, Kieran, and Aidan had left to go prepare for the meeting with their other founding member. Which gave her some time to rest, and freshen up. Thankful for the time because she needed it. After this afternoon she was feeling kinda dingy. Blessedly someone had made her an outfit for her to train in. A lovely garment that allowed her to move with ease. It also felt amazing against her skin. She planned to ask about it while they ate, but wasn’t able to.

The men had chattered about everything. Discussing the meeting again with her, and explaining its history. That she had been fascinated to learn, hanging onto every word. She was thrilled to be able to attend. They explained their surprise at how well she also took the information, and history of their people. Their chests had stuck out with pride during that topic. She tried so hard not to laugh, failing when Aidan had stuck his tongue out at her. Once she started she couldn’t stop, even though they joined in eventually.

When it was time to clean up the food mess, they continued on in their praise. It was strange for her to hear so many positive things. Like how impressed they were with how she had been able to control her gifts so soon. Rambling on further about the possibility of discovering more, seemed to really excite them. With the clean up finished she could now have some me time. They would come back, and collect her, so they could all walk together to the meeting.

Feeling lucky, and nervous at the same time. This was a secret society, formed in the wake of a call to war. They were responsible for keeping order while remaining completely unseen. Performing dangerous feats to protect all living creatures. Sometimes even nefarious tasks, which they were considering apparently for her situation. Not to mention the guard duty some of them members have already been performing for her safety. Never before had she felt this treasured or valued.

Jumping down off the bed she grabbed her footwear from beneath, and pulled them on. Feeling more secure in her own clothing, physically, and mentally. The confidence it gave her was what she wanted to show at this meeting. Standing she rotated her shoulders with a mental pep talk. ‘You can do this. It’s only a few people. Plus Kieran will be there.’ Looking up, and taking a few deep breaths to center herself tilting her head side to side.
