● Set time limits
Some activities can go on forever if you let them. Things like checking emails or running advertising campaigns can just consume so much time. Instead it's better to limit the time spent. Block out time to do those activities and then set a timer. Work on those activities until that timer goes off. Not only will this give you hyperfocus but it will also create an excellent management of your time.
● Say no
Protecting your time is crucial. Sometimes it's ok for you to say no. For example if your boss asks you to do something that's not particularly urgent you might want to tell him that this is going to take you away from doing more meaningful activities. Instead delegate it. Or maybe your friends ask you out to drink beer but you want to work on your business. If there are projects not working out with people don’t be afraid to walk away. By saying no to certain things it will free you up to focus your efforts on the things that matter.
Flexibility
As we discussed earlier when you set a goal you also create a plan to get there. But that plan shouldn't be so rigid that it doesn't have flexibility for unexpected opportunities and obstacles along the way. There's a famous quote that says the map is not the territory. This is a metaphor that can be applied to goals and planning The plan is the map but that doesn't mean it accurately reflects what's going to happen in real life. Things will happen that are unexpected. To deal with those we need to be flexible and sometimes take a different pathway. Or sometimes adjust your goal to maybe get something much better. Always be open to those opportunities and flexible on your path.
Stay fresh
Finally I want to tell you something that's pretty important. Stay fresh without judgment and without ego. It can be easy to get jaded and want to give up when things don't go the way you want. But if you can keep a clean slate in your mind that can really help to easily bring new opportunities to you.
Multi billionaire Richard Branson says “think like a child to get a head”. Richard Branson is quite a unique person. After dropping out of school at the age of sixteen he went on to set up his own business Empire. He has said that a fresh mind is the cause of much of his success. Just like a child he can see opportunities where adults often see obstacles. This is exactly the mindset that he had when he quit his studies and first set up his first company as a teenager. He let go of ego or judgement and embraced the inner child. He leapt into the unknown. Throughout his career he has maintained that childlike attitude from launching Virgin Records to Virgin Atlantic airline and more. He has even said that there were many times
