The Current Legal Situation

Currently, the Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs Working Group is drafting legal amendments to the Family Law. The Ministry supports the prohibition of corporal punishment of children in the home and is including it as one of the main amendments to the law. We anticipate that the amendments will be read by Parliament in the spring session of 2011. In May 2010, the national Council for Children approved the Mid-Term National Child Protection Strategy. This means that the Government of Mongolia has officially made a commitment to ban corporal punishment in all settings.
