When I am tempted to prioritize my to-do list above spending time with my loved ones, I will stop and ask the Lord to help me be self-controlled enough to set aside the work for a time. I will ask the Lord to help me regain an eternal perspective on what matters most in this life: people!

My Heart’s Cry to You, O Lord

Father, I have this ongoing internal battle that rages whenever I start to prioritize work over the people in my life. I feel drawn to working hard and finishing everything I start. While these are good traits to have, I also realize that I often put so much emphasis on getting my work done that I unknowingly neglect the people close to me. Help me to develop a more sensitive eternal perspective on the value of people over production. I really want to put others first and love them well by being fully present, but it doesn’t come naturally to me. I need your strength and grace to let go of those perfectionist tendencies that hinder me from loving my loved ones in the way they need to be loved. Amen.
