Let them decorate the kite’s tail using their favourite fruit or vegetables.

take things slowly

A lunchtime treat for your little gastro-pods. This great sandwich idea was created by Funky follower, Theresa Croyle from Forest Lake, Minnesota, USA.

You will need

• bagel

• filling

• celery

• grapes

• spring onion

• cheese

1 Slice open your bagel and pack it with a sandwich filling that will hold it together once upright.

2 Trim the wide end of a celery stick at an angle to form the head and cut the tail end of it to your desired length.

3 Cut a ‘V’ shape into one of the edges on the bagel so it sits nicely along your celery stick.

4 Using the offcuts of celery, make two thin sticks and fix them into the ‘head’ end of the celery by cutting a small slit each side and pushing them in place.

5 To make the eyes, cut a black grape in half and, using a small circular cutter, remove the middle of the grape and replace with a small circle of cheese, topped with a spot of grape skin for the pupil.

6 Using a small pointed knife, make a hole in the bottom of the grape eye and push this on top of the celery stick.

7 Decorate your snail’s shell with thin strips of spring onion held in place with either butter or cream cheese.

For a genuine (albeit grisly!) touch, spread a trail of snail ‘slime’ behind your snail using a squirt of relish.
