I knock back the shot, and the burn from the whiskey slides down my throat. Fuck, I love Fireball.

“How many does that make it, ma’am?” I look up at Drew, who is smiling down at me.

I purse my lips in thought. “I think three.”

“Okay, you are cut off for a bit,” he retorts as he throws away the plastic shot glass.

“Thanks, Dad.” Rolling my eyes, I cross my arms over my chest.

“Look, the Kings will be here soon. The last thing I need is to hand you over drunk as a skunk and they kick my ass.” He holds out his right arm and waves it at me. “Remember starting pitcher? Yeah, I’m a little protective over my pitching arm, sue me. So, you are going to stop drinking for a bit.”

“Fine. Whatever.” I stick my tongue out and walk into the living area where people are humping each other to the music. I turn, thinking Drew is following me like he has been.

Drew has been a helicopter friend since the moment the party started. I’m sure it has to do with making sure nothing happens to me, or my guys threatened him. But either way, he’s in the kitchen chatting with some people, and I don’t think he realized I stepped away from him. I take the moment of freedom to step outside in the back and get some fresh air.

God knows how many people are here, and it’s sweltering inside because of it.

The minute I step foot on the back patio, the cold air instantly cools me. I pull out my phone and check for any messages. Nothing.

The guys had some bullshit with their dads, but you would think one of them would throw me a bone and let me know where they are.
