Younger Crowds

George could sit for hours. He was making good money for nothing: sixty quid a month. He just moved this way and that, depending upon what Bacon wanted, or remained perfectly still. He did not complain, and sometimes they worked for the entire morning. Bacon might even finish a painting in one go. It remained true that Bacon did not ordinarily like to paint from life—he felt too obliged to entertain his sitters, almost always his friends, and he could not then properly concentrate—but George was not Cecil Beaton or Lisa Sainsbury. Bacon did not have to amuse George or worry about his opinions.
