Alyssa
This was it.
This was the moment when I would finally get to kiss Jace Carmichael again.
It had been such a long time since weâd been this close. But standing just inches from him had my heart racing faster than it had that night in my tree house.
His eyes were such a cool shade of blue, darker than mine, with swirls of turquoise. I loved his eyes, but even more, I loved the way he was looking at me right now. Like I was the only girl in the world and that being here in this moment together was all he wanted.
âIs this really real?â he asked, his voice full of disbelief.
âI think so,â I whispered back. âI hope so.â
He stepped closer and slipped his hands over my hips. It was going to happen. Jace Carmichael was finally going to kiss me again.
I closed my eyes and tilted my head back as I waited for him to close the distance between us. But instead of feeling his mouth on mine, he instead pressed his lips against my cheek.
âIs it okay if I kiss you like that, Alyssa?â he asked, his voice so low and sexy, it made my insides knot together.
âYes,â I said, my breathing ragged.
A whisper of a smile played on his lips at my response and he gently swept my hair away from my neck. And before I knew what he was doing, he leaned his head down and kissed the curve of my neck, the warmth of his lips on my skin causing me to shudder.
âWhat about that?â he whispered into my hair, his breath hot on my skin.
âUh-huh,â I gasped. Though what I really wanted to do was tell him to just kiss me before I melted into a puddle at his feet.
I didnât know if Jace could sense exactly what he was doing to me in that moment or what, but he really must enjoy making a girl insane before he kissed her because instead of pressing his lips against mine like I was dying for him to do, he trailed kisses all the way up my neck, and along my jaw until his cheek rested against mine.
âIs that okay too?â he murmured in my ear.
I couldnât breathe.
Iâd never felt this way before. Like every nerve in my body was charged and just buzzing under the surface.
âIf you donât want me to kiss you,â he mumbled in a husky voice next to my ear, âstop me now.â
I didnât stop him.
And finally, when I thought I was about to burst, he cupped my face in his able hands, and pulled my lips to his. His lips were soft and slow, his kiss deliberate and unhurried, and I almost burst into flames.
I needed to touch him, to know he was real. That this was real.
So as his hands traveled down my arms then to my back where they smoothed around in slow circles, I slid my hands over the contours of his chest, and up until they could tangle in his hair.
