CHAPTER THIRTEEN
The hallway near Jezelâs room was quiet compared to the bustle on the luxury suite floor. Tessa immediately appreciated the comfort she felt being in the space. They had moved through decontamination, discarding their suits an hour ago, and most of the orbiter was now asleep or decompressing from the chaos now that they were free of the space ripple and all systems were back online. Jezelâs surprise party had been bumped to tomorrow, and in a rare show of self-focus, she had canceled her seven a.m. meeting with Locklan. She would take tonight for herself.
Tessa took in every nuance of the space. The living quarters for those who worked on the orbiters were rumored to be spacious, and she felt her senses tingling with anticipation as Jezel unlocked her door. Jezel opened the door, then held her gaze till she had moved into the room. Tessa bit her lip at the rush of heat when the door clicked closed behind them and Jezel said her name.
âTessa.â
âYes,â Tessa said, turning. Her stomach flipped as she took in Jezel in the soft light of the room wearing the dress that had replaced the towel sheâd found her in this morning. Her legs were gorgeous, and the strappy heel made Tessa want to run her hand along her calf. She ran her eyes up the dress.
Tessa noticed that Jezelâs breath caught because her chest lifted but didnât fall. Her eyes were dark, and she watched the desire flicker.
Tessa followed the curves of Jezelâs breasts with her eyes, noting the exact place they began their gentle rise and fall at the sweetheart neckline. Tessa watched her moving toward her. She felt her own breath snag when Jezel took over her space. Tessa met her eyes. âDid I mention I appreciate Baerahâs clothing choice for your surprise party?â
Tessa knew the words would remind Jezel of their morning tryst. And she was rewarded with a hum of pleasure when she ran her hand along the strap. She knew the fear and risk of the last several hours had pushed them both over that precipice they had been balancing on. Tonight, she did not care. Tonight, she would fall.
Jezel smiled and took Tessaâs hand, pulling her to the kitchen. Tension hung heavy in the air and the anticipation was palpable, but Jezelâs movement shifted the energy. It was like thinking about recipes during sex to avoid climaxing too soon. Jezel seemed to want to slow things down. Tessa was okay with that. She wanted to savor every moment because she knew her morning self would be rebuilding walls.
âTell me about the companies youâre researching while I open some wine.â
âYouâre still trying,â Tessa said, smiling. âYou know I canât discuss the details.â She leaned her shoulder against the wall as she watched Jezel reach for the wineglasses in an upper cabinet. âHere, let me help.â Tessaâs heeled ankle boots added two inches more height to the three she already had over Jezel. âAre you interested in
