to Grow and Develop

Quality teachers, like all professionals, recognize that they must be lifelong learners. They desire and even demand to continue to grow and develop in their teaching excellence, understanding that even the best can get better. As new information and research about quality instruction evolves, quality teachers need opportunities to continue to “sharpen their professional saws” (Covey, 1989). Quality teachers deserve nothing less than state-of-the-art professional development and training. They need to be provided opportunities to share strategies and methodologies with colleagues and to learn from other quality teachers. These opportunities may come in the form of time to network and dialogue with other professionals or to attend professional conferences and seminars. Growth opportunities may also be provided through chances to coach and mentor others or through reflective conferencing. They may also include opportunities to read, review, and share literature about the latest research on best practices and cutting-edge methodologies.
