“Look who I found.”

It was a week after our meeting with Anais, and Elektra and I were bickering over lunch and my family’s “poor dietary choices” (she pushed salad on us so often you’d think she worked for Big Salad) but stopped at Alex’s announcement.

She’d gone out to do recon work as a chauffeur for the past week and returned with Julian, the Flavios’ driver, his hands zip-tied together. He wasn’t wearing his face mask or glasses, which drew attention to the only thing marring his near-perfect face: a jagged scar under one eye.

Elektra must’ve noticed that same detail because she shot out of her chair and rushed forward to touch the mark on the man’s face. He held still and let her, as if he’d predicted her reaction and resigned himself to it.

“Orestes?”

“Hey, ate. Long time no see.”

Not exactly the touching family reunion I’d been expecting. “How did you know who he was?”

Alex tipped her chauffeur’s cap at me. “I wouldn’t have figured it out if Tiz hadn’t prepped me. The scar was the biggest giveaway.”

Orestes shook his head. “A decade of hiding blown because of this stupid outfit. I keep the scar covered with makeup and my glasses, but it was so hot outside. In the time it took me to take off my glasses to wipe away the sweat, Alex figured it out.”

Elektra touched the restraints on his wrists. “Was this necessary?”

“It was for his own good. He tried to run away, and when that didn’t work, he tried to fight me. Points for bravery, but next time you swing on me, I’m not holding back.” Alex pulled out her balisong and cut his hands free.

Orestes stared at the butterfly knife in my sister’s scarred hands and nodded.

“Why are you working for the Flavios?” Elektra and I asked at the same time. We glanced at each other, then turned our searching eyes toward her brother.

“I heard about Geni. And Daddy. I didn’t believe the story about their deaths being accidental, so I came to investigate.”

“Mommy will be so happy to see you,” Elektra said. Orestes made a noncommittal noise, and the siblings eyed one another, a silent conversation taking place.

“Why don’t we take you home? The three of us can work at your place since we have questions for Orestes.” I grabbed Elektra’s purse and take-out salad bag and shoved them at her.

“Can it wait?” Elektra asked, after another glance at Orestes. “It’s been so long since we were all together. I’d prefer to keep it family-only for tonight.”

Now it was my turn to hold a nonverbal conversation with my siblings. Tiz and Alex both shrugged.

Ignoring the pressure in my chest, I rubbed my agimat and said, “It’s not urgent. We still need to crack the password on that flash drive anyway.”

“We’ll stop by in the morning. And make sure you all eat these, or you’ll hear it from me tomorrow,” Elektra said, setting the salads back on the table.

I grinned at her. “Looking forward to it.
