Weekly time management
The methodology of time management proposed by Covey and his colleagues involves working with a weekly schedule, as opposed to planning each day, which provides a very limited view and emphasises urgency and speed instead of effectiveness and importance. With a weekly overview, daily activities take their true proportion in relation to each other.
The authors suggest a method with steps that will help us to create our weekly schedule.
The first step, which is fundamental, is to get in touch with your vision and mission. This is to establish what is essential to you and gives a general direction to your life (at work or at home). If you think you already have a clear and precise vision, you should still regularly take a few minutes to take stock and possibly make adjustments based on what is important to you, what gives meaning to your life, who you want to be and what you want to do with your life. To better identify these elements, Covey suggests several paths:make a list of your top three or four priorities;
consider your long-term goals;
think about the relationships that matter most in your life;
imagine what you can do to make yourself useful;
list the feelings you experience most often (serenity, self-confidence, happiness, etc.);
consider how you would spend your time if you only had six months left to live.
