AIRPORT STORAGE – 555-1848

She raised an eyebrow. “Ya think?”

“Let’s find out.”

They went around to the front of the storage unit and started checking the key against each door’s padlock. They struck gold at unit number three. The lock clicked open, and Jason immediately reached for his phone.

“Lieutenant Savage.”

Jason explained the situation and requested a search warrant.

Savage was on it right away. “Give me an hour.”

His adrenaline surging, Jason resisted the temptation to slide the door open. Instead, he relocked the building. They returned to where Darrel was standing, his mask pulled down. Jason told him of their find.

“Nice!”

Jason pointed down at the body. “What do you think happened to our guy?”

Darrel sighed. “I never like these situations, because there are still many unknowns, but I’m leaning toward suicide. It appears Castillo was on his knees when he shot himself. He fell forward to the left, away from the impact. The gun lands near his right hand.”

“Makes sense to me.”

“What about other evidence? Is there anything to bolster my theory?”

“Maybe. We’ve discovered that Castillo was dating a girl who was murdered early the same morning. We’re theorizing he may have killed her and then decided to do this.”

“So, he kills himself out of remorse or not wanting to go to prison?”

“Something like that.”

“Possible, I guess, but I’d feel better if we found a note.”

Jason nodded. “You and me both. We’re hoping it’s in that storage building.”

“Okay. Is it all right if I transport?”

Jason’s eyes widened. “Please do!”

Darrel grinned. “You detectives need to man up, or woman up, as the case may be.”

“Easy for you to say. Your nose stopped working back in college!”
