BEFORE HE HAD FALLEN asleep, Cadyn gathered all the strength he could, and sent his sleeping self away from the Crimson Kingdom- home instead to McKnight Manor. An astral version of himself walked down the hall from his bedroom to check on Malcom. He placed a palm on her door and pushed it open. Inside, his precious baby girl slept soundly with Cia curled beside her and Panther guarding the foot of the bed. He nodded to himself reassuringly then turned, feeling comforted by her safety. He went to stroll back down the hall when something in the spare room caught his eye. Sitting on the edge of what was now Andy’s bed, petting Gizmo with tender fingers, was a handsome young man with black hair and green eyes.

Cade stared at him for a long moment- trapped in the silent twilight of dream magic. His heart raced as he drank in every detail about this familiar stranger. He noted immediately the square jaw that belonged to his father and the green eyes that had to come from Cleo’s family tree- whatever it actually was. The man suddenly noticed him and tilted his head in surprise. He offered Cade a faint smile then waved at him softly. With tears in his eyes, his father waved back at the son he had never met but had always known. He was just about to speak to him when a voice beckoned from somewhere else, and it drew him fast from the projection of his dreams.

“Cade? Cade...” Andy shook his mentor, who was laying eerily still and felt cold to the touch. The shapeshifter’s eyes flew open, and he gasped for breath, sitting straight up as a line of sweat broke across his brow. Color began to fill his face again as he turned to look at Andy, his chest heaving as he took in massive gulps of air.

“Sorry,” he apologized, seeing how startled and concerned his apprentice appeared. “I was... Dream-walking. I’ll tell you about it later... What’s up? Is something wrong?”

“Uh... No... Uhm... Jaron said it’s dinner time,” Andy replied in a meek voice. Cade nodded and rubbed the back of his neck, his senses flooding back to him in crashing waves of sound and color.

“Of course...”

The two of them gathered their bearings and headed out of the guest room with grainy eyes and stiff steps. The Crimson couple stood in the kitchen, laughing amongst one another as they filled glass bowls with a delicious concoction of veggies and grain that smelled of earthy herbs and seasonings. Anna noticed them first and they waved at her when she greeted them with a crinkle-nosed smile.

“Well there you are!” she beamed as she pushed a freshly dampened lock of strawberry hair back out of her face. “We were going to let you sleep a little longer but the boys were just so excited to meet the Lord of the Peacekeeper Corps. I didn’t want to let supper get cold while they waited so patiently. I hope you don’t mind the awakening.
