"Thanks, Ted! I was hoping to hear such words. I'd like to put things straight and to be honest with you. If she were an adolescent I would never ever allow her to go on this journey. Now I have no right to ban it. She has already turned eighteen and I am not entitled to interfere with what is going on between you and her, since both of you are young adults. Please beware of the possible danger and risks." He grinned and Ted blushed.

"Sir, I do assure you. Nothing has ever occurred between Alice and me. Yes, I love her, but I shall never do anything against her will!"

"You're too young," sighed Mr. Fortescue, apparently having recalled his own youth. "Ted, I don't mind Alice's participation in this voyage. Good luck to you two! Please take care of her!"

"Undoubtedly, Mr. Fortescue, no worries!"

Ted left the Magistrate, called Alice and gave her a full account of the meeting with her dad. Alice calmed down after hearing her father did not mind her going. Or, maybe he did, yet, having made sure that it was next to impossible to reassure his daughter, he decided to clarify Ted's intentions and to have his word that he would care for her. Something is better than nothing!
