Hestia-Baby Fairy Gothmother

This Can’t Be Right

* * *

The Fairy Godmothers were grim-faced when they interrupted a Near Kiss Experience.

Which was just as well.

Why was she about to kiss Laurent when she was supposed to be punishing him? Aside from the part where she still had feelings for him.

She was sure there was some kind of ethics violation that she was about to make out with her charge. Actually, she was sure her deal with Rumplestiltfucker was an ethics violation. Even though, it was her deal that made her a Fairy Gothmother. She didn’t know. But wait, if his wish was to make out with her, wouldn’t she just be granting his wish? This was all quickly becoming a tangled mess.

At her huff of frustration, Bluebonnet sat down next to her and patted her hand. “I know, dearie. It’s all a big mess, huh? Let’s have a snack.”

“As a certified Fairy Godmother, I recommend eating your feelings,” Jonquil said.

“So, obviously, I don’t want to smite him anymore. You guys knew I’d feel that way. What else can we do besides eating our feelings?” Hestia asked.

“I have an idea,” Laurent said.

All the faces in the room turned to him.

“You fulfill the letter of the contract. Bring me close to everything I want. Then take it away. It’s okay. No one said you can’t come back and we can’t try again. I don’t care about anything but being with you.”

That’s something Rumpledforeskin didn’t take into account when he made your deal. Now that you’re our charges, we won’t let anything hurt you. Including yourselves,” Petty said.

“Plus, Petty has already paid a high price to find a workaround for your contract,” Jonquil said.

“Hush. It’s fine.” Petty turned back to them and flashed her a sweet, grandmotherly smile. “I’m an FG grown, if you recall, sisters.”

“I still don’t like it,” Jonquil protested.

“Like what?” Hestia asked.

“Never you mind that.” Petty smoothed her dress. “How do you feel about time travel?”

“That sounds complicated,” Laurent answered.

“Yeah,” Hestia agreed. “A lot like more chances for things to go horribly, awfully, and terribly wrong.”

“Well, it’s not like what you think of when you think traditionally of time travel. Lots of possible anomalies and changing the timeline, blah blah. No, you can’t affect anything, really. You simply get to go back and experience your life the way it should have unfolded without meddling.”

“I don’t understand,” Laurent said. “If I can’t affect anything, why bother?”

“It’s essentially a do over, but not,” Bluebonnet said. “Oh, that wasn’t helpful, was it?”

“What she means to say,” Jonquil began. “Is that you’ll get to experience making the choices that you would’ve made otherwise. Regardless of the outcome. It’s the only safe way to do it. So your
