Hestia-Baby Fairy Gothmother
This Canât Be Right
* * *
The Fairy Godmothers were grim-faced when they interrupted a Near Kiss Experience.
Which was just as well.
Why was she about to kiss Laurent when she was supposed to be punishing him? Aside from the part where she still had feelings for him.
She was sure there was some kind of ethics violation that she was about to make out with her charge. Actually, she was sure her deal with Rumplestiltfucker was an ethics violation. Even though, it was her deal that made her a Fairy Gothmother. She didnât know. But wait, if his wish was to make out with her, wouldnât she just be granting his wish? This was all quickly becoming a tangled mess.
At her huff of frustration, Bluebonnet sat down next to her and patted her hand. âI know, dearie. Itâs all a big mess, huh? Letâs have a snack.â
âAs a certified Fairy Godmother, I recommend eating your feelings,â Jonquil said.
âSo, obviously, I donât want to smite him anymore. You guys knew Iâd feel that way. What else can we do besides eating our feelings?â Hestia asked.
âI have an idea,â Laurent said.
All the faces in the room turned to him.
âYou fulfill the letter of the contract. Bring me close to everything I want. Then take it away. Itâs okay. No one said you canât come back and we canât try again. I donât care about anything but being with you.â
Petty gave him a gentle smile. âWhich is why you two deserve your Happily Ever After. But we canât do that.â
âWhy not?â he asked.
âBecause there are laws that govern your world and hers that are beyond the contract. The FG Council will not abide trifling with Happily Ever After. Thatâs something Rumpledforeskin didnât take into account when he made your deal. Now that youâre our charges, we wonât let anything hurt you. Including yourselves,â Petty said.
âPlus, Petty has already paid a high price to find a workaround for your contract,â Jonquil said.
âHush. Itâs fine.â Petty turned back to them and flashed her a sweet, grandmotherly smile. âIâm an FG grown, if you recall, sisters.â
âI still donât like it,â Jonquil protested.
âLike what?â Hestia asked.
âNever you mind that.â Petty smoothed her dress. âHow do you feel about time travel?â
âThat sounds complicated,â Laurent answered.
âYeah,â Hestia agreed. âA lot like more chances for things to go horribly, awfully, and terribly wrong.â
âWell, itâs not like what you think of when you think traditionally of time travel. Lots of possible anomalies and changing the timeline, blah blah. No, you canât affect anything, really. You simply get to go back and experience your life the way it should have unfolded without meddling.â
âI donât understand,â Laurent said. âIf I canât affect anything, why bother?â
âItâs essentially a do over, but not,â Bluebonnet said. âOh, that wasnât helpful, was it?â
âWhat she means to say,â Jonquil began. âIs that youâll get to experience making the choices that you wouldâve made otherwise. Regardless of the outcome. Itâs the only safe way to do it. So your
