What am I doing? This is crazy. He’s just given me so many words without actually saying anything at all. My brain has had zero time to process any of it. When his hands are on me, everything else fades away, and I feel like what we have is so much more, but I need more. I thought I could handle having him once. I had to know what having him felt like, and fuck if it wasn’t everything, but a second will surely wreck me. It’s slowly breaking me now, and we haven’t even fucked.

“Connor, I-I can’t…”

His big hands grip my ass as he peers up at me. Those dark eyes hooded with sheer desire have me clenching before he licks me straight up my center. Shit. I know he felt that, which doesn’t help my plea for him to stop.

“Whatever it is you’re thinking, stop. I already told you no one is going to see you. I want this.” He licks me once more, sending a shiver straight down my spine. “And you want this. Let it happen.”

Why does that not make it better? Why can’t that be enough? Why am I asking myself questions I already know the answers to? It’s not enough because I had one taste and want more. It’s not enough because I don’t want to be just another girl he fucked in the grotto, and while I need to be close to him, I don’t have to lose whatever pieces of me I’ve slowly stitched back together over the past few months. God, now I’m picturing him bringing other girls in here.

I close my eyes and try to swallow down the hurt. He’s a one-night-stand type of guy. I’ve known that from day one, and just because his name is currently attached to mine doesn’t change that.

“Hey, don’t do that. I know whatever this is, it’s not normal.” He rests his chin on my stomach, and his eyes soften. “I have no right to ask this of you, but I’m going to anyway because this, right now, you and me like this—it’s never been like this. Don’t push me out.” His voice is tender. I bite the corner of my mouth and close my eyes. I want this. I do, but… “I promise no one will see you, but you should know, if there was any question of if this was real before, there’s not now. You coming in here with me made it crystal fucking clear you belong to me. If you want me to stop, I will, but it doesn’t change anyone’s perception.”

What he doesn’t see is, I don’t care about anyone else’s perception but his. His thumbs brush over my hips in a manner meant to soothe as I try to decide if I can do this. That perfect mouth, the one that makes me feel everything every time it touches my skin, kisses my ribcage right beneath my breast before he repeats the movement on the other side, and I go weak.
