The third-anniversary issue of Fuck You: A Magazine of the Arts featured on its cover a still from Couch. A third of the way into the magazine appeared a piece called “Friends of Gerard Malanga (commissioned by Ronnie Tavel).” Illustrated with a stylized spurting penis, the piece consisted of two lists, including twenty-eight men and seventeen women. When Ron Tavel read it at Café le Metro, the growling laughter testified to the gossipy joke about the possibilities of sexual flexibility.
